  • BEYOND THE MAP!

This tour is an adventure from the beginnning ‘till the last morning. We visit unknown places in Western-Botswana and Eastern-Namibia, like the Gcwihaba Caves and Naye-Naye Pans.

Khaudum is known for it’s roan antelope and the Buffalo Core Area of Bwabwata National Park is known for it’s sable antelope sightings.
Both parks also teem with elephant and buffalo and other game like wild dogs, honey badgers, cheetah and lion also occur here.
We cross from Botswana to Namibia at the small Dobe border!

The tour is compiled with the focus on the roads less travelled and plenty of game sightings, but also to relax in the wilderness. There will be ample photo opportunities with wild baobab trees and a variety of game as your subjects and it is a paradise for bird watchers!

The tour is led by professional guide Douwe Vlok and assisted by his small, but formidable team who will ensure for scrumptious meals and that your tents are pitched whenever you reach your overnight spot.

TOUR PLAN

Day 1 - Ghanzi

We meet late afternoon at Symphonia lodge’s camping grounds. Symphonia is 7km North of Ghanzi on the Maun road.
We will be ready for you with coffee and the tents will be pitched so that you can settle in and relax around the fire. Before dinner we get acquainted with our new friends and discuss our planned routes for the tour.

“Short drop” and no showers
After an early breakfast we drive to Sehithwa(190km) where we fill-up with fuel. From there it is a further 60km on tarmac before the 110km sand track to Nxai-Nxai area where the caves are.
If possible we will visit both caves the same afternoon. It is an unknown and unvisited area also known for roaming elephant.

After a lazy breakfast we drive to and cross the border from Botswana to Namibia at Dobe. The Dobe border post is small and should not take long to cross.

We are staying 2 nights at our campsite under a huge baobab tree. This site has toilets and showers.

The next morning we join a San-Bushman for a short informative hike.
After brunch we drive through/around the Naye-Naye Pans looking for game and birds.

After breakfast we drive to the litle town of Tsumkwe where we fill up with fuel.
It is 60km of good dirt road untill we arrive at the Southern Gate of Khaudum National Park.
Lunch will be enroute, hopefully at one of the water holes in the park.
We settle into our camp at Sikereti with potable water, flush porcelain toilets and warm donkey showers. If time allows it, then it will be great to enjoy sunset at a water hole.
From here onwards all the camps have flush toilets and hot showers.

Khaudum park is known for it’s sandy roads and we will be tested today as we drive to the North. We will visit some water holes along the way and keep our eyes open for roan antelope and other game.
Late afternoon we will settle in at Khaudum Camp with a beautiful view where we can relax around the fire for sunset.
We stay 2 nights here and the next day is set out for game driving, either in a group or on your own. You can also just relax in this beautiful camp.

After breakfast it is 80km of sand track to the Rundu / Katima Mulilo tarmac road in Western-Caprivi. Here we inflate our tyres before driving the next 100km of tarmac to Divundu for fuel and ice cream!
We stay 2 nights inside the Buffalo-Core area of Bwabwata National Park. Our campsite is on the Kavango River from where we can relax and enjoy sunset next to the fire.
For those so inclined, you can drive deeper into the park and try for elephant and buffalo sightings at sunset.
The next day we explore the park looking for game like warthog, kudu, sable antelope, lion and the shy chobe bushbuck.
Late afternoon we go on a sunset boat trip on the Kavango River into the park. It is always beautiful but especially so if elephant, hippo or buffalo entertain us during sunset.

After 10 glorious days our adventure winds down and time to head homeward. This is not goodbye, but until next time!
