Key experiences:

  • The park is almost 4 million hectares with only a few sand tracks. Most animals concentrate around the 2 rivers, Nossob and Auob and the pans in the concession area of Mabuasehube.
  • On the Botswana side there is no fences and sitting around the bush fire is a great experience.
  • The landscape of dunes and red sands with white grass and some trees, make for amazing photographic opportunities.
  • That is without the animals from bat-eared foxes to honey badgers and ground squirrels.
  • The birdlife is also quite amazing and we will be looking for pygmy falcon’s, sandgrouse and sociable weavers. KTP is well known for its raptors and vultures.
  • I will be in radio contact with you on the drives and share some biological and historical knowledge.
  • Three meals a day will be prepared, and you will be surprised by our experienced bush chef’s magic.
  • We pitch the tents at our campsites for this true adventure tour, with lots of sand, four-wheel driving.

TOUR PLAN

Day 1 & 2: Nossob

Our magical adventure through the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park begins today at Nossob Campsite. The 160km from Twee Rivieren to Nossob, is a game drive all the way and you have the whole day to reach us. Look out for the elusive African wildcat’s and suricates!

Staying at Nossob for 2 nights allow us to set out for an early game drive the next day. Today we enjoy game drives around the Nossob area and relax in the swimming pool.

The waterhole at the campsite could also be busy as water is not readily available in the park.

After a scrumptious dinner we relax and socialise around the fire.

After an early rise and light breakfast, we head east, crossing the Nossob River into the Botswana section of Transfrontier Park.  From here we take the Boso Trail (Southern route), heading east towards Mabuasehube.  It is a beautiful day’s drive through some of the most amazing dune fields and we will stop for lunch en route. 
 
For the next four days, we traverse through one of the wildest and most remote places in Southern Africa.  The roads will consist of two-spoor tracks, cutting through the red Kalahari sand. The area is renowned for its low-lying pans, where giant eland, springbok, gemsbok and the famous Kalahari lions come to quench their thirst.
 
The birding is also good as the summer visitors would have arrived. Even rare visitors like the Greater Painted Snipes were seen in Mabua in 2022.   
 
Except for the rustic vehicle tracks, long drops and shower cubicles, there is nothing else man-made and without light pollution, the heavenly night skies and solitude will take your breath away. 

 

These four nights we will be camping wild and enjoying the silence and sounds of the African bush.
 
Sunrise and sunsets are spectacular and the days are spent game viewing in an area known for lion, leopard, cheetah, honey badger and brown hyena sightings.

After an early breakfast, it is, unfortunately, time to head home and greet until next time.
